Life in Quarantine
About one year ago I was attending NomadCruise 8, a pretty unique conference for digital nomads and remote workers... happening on a cruise boat! Today, I am in Puerto Morelos, a small fishing town in Mexico, living in isolation like the rest of the world to fight the global coronavirus pandemic.
Now, how these two things are related? Read on ;)
Nomad Cruise is a very "social" event, full of workshops, day trips and human interactions in general. One of the last days, I needed some "me-time" and I was in the library (alone) enjoying a book.
After some time, another cruiser came by and told me that a meet-up was about to start in the same place, and kindly offered me to join. I was not really prone, but the library was small so I couldn't keep reading my book in peace (LOL)... so I accepted!
The meet-up was hosted by Daria and Sebastien from Superhero Tribe and it was about lifestyle, vision, and self-discovery, all topics I never "touched" in my life in a serious way. The meeting was fun, and what we did was basically "design the vision" of our life in 10 years.
This isn't an easy task, but we were guided by specific questions and the hosts that clearly know their stuff.
I did mine, thanked the guys for inviting me to join and really enjoyed that experience "fell from the sky" (serendipity style).
In the last days, while quarantined, I was reorganizing some notes and I found that one: "My life in 10 years". Surprisingly, my life in quarantine is incredibly similar to the perfect life routine I designed myself during the meet-up!
Don't' get me wrong, I am still very worried about the emergency, and my heart is bleeding for all the people that are dying. I can't wait to get out of my house without having to pay attention to what I touch and how I breathe, and I can't wait to hug family and friends again.
Despite this, I like the life I am doing, and I wanted to share my daily routine here on my blog:
- 7.00 - wake up, it's a new day!
- 7.30 - quick breakfast, one juice and one banana
- 8.00 - long morning walk on the beach, and a swim
- 9.00 - back home, time for "the real breakfast"
- 10.00 - work for about 3 hrs
- 13.30 - call mom & dad
- 14.00 - healthy launch
- 15.00 - power nap
- 15.30 - me-time! I use a few more hours to take online courses, work on side gigs, read a book, listen to music, or just plan/think future projects. Speaking of which, I just revamped my personal website (read why)!
- 18.30 - evening snack and social media time
- 19.30 - meditation
- 20.00 - dinner
- 21.00 - Netflix with Arnisa
- 22.30 - goodnight!
Note 1: I am lucky enough to have a job that was not impacted by corona. I just decided to work less and dedicate part of the day to personal things.
Note 2: in my "original" 10 years vision, the afternoon includes outdoor activities, which of course I can't do now. But the rest is basically the same!
Note 3: we are not fully quarantined as things are in an early stage in Mexico, but we are voluntarily staying home most of the time.
Update Apr 02: the Government in Quintana Roo decided to close the beaches for safety reasons :( so we replaced the beach walk with some pool time (fortunately our condo has a shared pool).
At the end of the day, my life is not that bad in isolation, and discovering it's similar to my ideal life vision was mindblowing.
I know that sounds a pretty "filled-up" as daily schedule, but I am not the only one that thinks it helps.
How are you doing in quarantine? Get in touch and let me know!
Stay safe, everyone,
Francesco
